Principal's Message Introduction Video

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

I am incredibly privileged to be the Principal of Mount Pleasant Road Primary School and Kindergarten. I feel fortunate to lead a school where our dedicated staff proudly support the learning and wellbeing of children from Three-Year-Old Kindergarten through to Year Six.

Over my time here, I’ve come to deeply value what makes this community so special.  Its rich diversity, strong sense of belonging, and unwavering commitment to nurturing every child’s potential. It is a privilege to work alongside such passionate educators and engaged families in creating an inclusive, safe, and inspiring environment for all students.

Mount Pleasant Road has a proud history of academic excellence, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy, and we have been recognised as one of the top state schools in Victoria for student improvement. Our students are encouraged to set learning goals, develop strategies for growth, and celebrate both their achievements and those of their peers. The integration of digital technologies enhances engagement and helps connect students with the world beyond the classroom.

In addition to our strong academic programs, we offer a variety of specialist programs in Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Science, and Indonesian Language (LOTE). Whether your child has an interest in academics, sports, or the arts, we have a wide range of co-curricular opportunities to support and nurture their talents. These include instrumental music, environmental education, our Kitchen Garden program, sport, choirs, dance troupes, public speaking, social skills programs, student leadership, and much more.

We are also thrilled about our recent school upgrades, including the opening of our new Creativity Hub. This innovative space is designed to inspire creativity and collaboration, providing students with an environment where they can explore, experiment, and express themselves in exciting ways. In addition to the Creativity Hub, we await the completion of a new basketball courts and beautifully landscaped grounds.

Our school actively promotes the safety and wellbeing of all students. We know that happy and secure children mean they are ready to learn and make the most of all learning opportunities. We have a comprehensive approach to student wellbeing from positive psychology to restorative practices. You can read our School Vision Statement and school philosophy , including our 'Child Safe Code of Conduct', under the Publications & Policies tab.

We are fortunate to be part of a caring and supportive school community, and there are many opportunities for you to get involved. Please take the time to explore our website and visit us to see what makes MPRPS the perfect place for your family.

Education is my passion, and I am committed to creating opportunities that ensure equity and excellence for all students. Together, we will continue to foster an environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Warm regards,
Claudia Rushton
