FOUNDATION ORIENTATION

FOUNDATION ORIENTATION

Children enrolled at our 4 Year Old Kindergarten have a seamless transition to Foundation. They have the opportunity to participate with their families in Mount Pleasant Road community events, such as the Twilight Sports, Family Science Night, Family Breakfast, Christmas Concert and Student Representative Council events including Book Week and Footy Day.

In Terms Two and Three, all children in the 4 year old Kindergarten group and children who have been accepted into our school for the following year are given the opportunity work with Year 4 students on activities both in the Kindergarten and school classrooms.

In October of Term Four, the Orientation Program for students enrolled in Foundation for the following year commences. Children participate in four sessions in the Foundation classrooms.

All Victorian government primary schools follow the statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline. The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child at a Victorian government primary school.

You can apply to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) in 2027 from Monday 20 April 2026.

What you need to do:

1. Visit our school website https://mtpleasantroadps.vic.edu.au/ to book a school tour.

2. Submit a digital enrolment application by Friday 31 July 2026. Our school uses the Department of Education’s secure digital enrolment system called VicStudents. https://students.educationapps.vic.gov.au/s/

This means you can submit your Foundation (Prep) application online and receive updates through the system. If you have any questions about the online enrolment process, please contact our school. Paper enrolment application forms are also available on request.

3. You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 3 August and Friday 14 August 2026.

4. If you receive an enrolment offer, you should accept the offer by Friday 28 August 2026.

5. Take part in school transition sessions during Term 4, 2026.

Enrolment applications submitted after 31 July 2026 will be processed by our school as they are received, in accordance with the department’s Enrolment Policy.

We also accept enrolment applications for students in other year levels. You can submit a request at any time in the school year.

Eligible students who live within our school zone are guaranteed a place, while students outside the zone may be enrolled if there are available places.

If you are seeking enrolment at any other year levels, please contact our school for more information.

PARENT INFORMATION EVENING

Parents are required to attend an Information Evening on in Term 4 to ask questions and get advice on school readiness. More information will be sent home with enrolement confirmation.

GETTING READY FOR FOUNDATION

Starting at school is a new and exciting experience. Some ideas for you to try at home to prepare your child for school include:

School Routine

Help your child into a routine similar to that of school:

  • Make a set time for eating morning tea (11AM) and lunch (1:30PM)
  • Avoid letting your child snack continually throughout the day
  • Begin preparing a packed lunch each day during the holidays. This will help him/her to handle a lunch box and drink bottle. It will also help you to know how much food your child needs.

School Uniform

If possible, have your child to try on their school uniform. Practise putting on and taking off shoes. It is a good idea to "break in" new school shoes before starting school.

First Day

On the first day of school, your child should bring their:

  • School bag - Named clearly so your child will be able to recognise it easily. A ribbon or small toy attached to the bag will make their bag even easier to identify.
  • Lunch in a box (named) and drink (water) in a plastic container (named). We encourage students to avoid packing nut products in their lunchbox.
  • Play lunch - We suggest that you provide a substantial snack for your child to eat at morning recess. This should be wrapped separately from the child's lunch.
  • Art smock - This can be made from an old shirt with the sleeves shortened and elastic at the wrists, or it is possible to purchase an art smock from the uniform shop.
  • A library bag - For borrowing books from the school library. A drawstring bag big enough to hold big books (approx. 36cm wide x 44cm long)
  • Spare underwear - All children should have a spare pair of underwear in a plastic bag, clearly labelled, in the front pocket of their schoolbag for use in an emergency
